Hi everyone! This is my new weekly snapshot of some interesting things that have been going through my mind recently. These have helped me make each day a little more productive and a little less stressful, and I hope they can do the same for you.
Keep grinding, stay positive, and keep chasing whatever crazy goal you have for yourself. It's probably not as impossible as it seems :)
1. Failure doesn't mean "No, never." It just means, "No.....net yet."
When we think of world-class professionals, failure is on of the last things that comes to mind. But in reality, these people know failure better than anyone else.
-J.K. Rowling was rejected by a dozen publishers for the first Harry Potter book.
-Tom Brady nearly went undrafted (6th round pick) in the 2000 NFL Draft
-Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he "lacked imagination"
The list goes on and on. Who you are (or aren't) today is nothing reflective of who you can become in a few years.
2. The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallway
This sports-psychology book is on my short list of “must-reads” before big auditions. It explain the pitfalls of the human mind in a way that’s very insightful and easy to understand. Furthermore, no advanced understanding of tennis is necessary, and the concepts can easily be applied to any field.
3. Airplane Mode
If Airplane Mode was considered an “app,” it would be my #1-used app by far. I use it whenever I’m practicing music, spending time with a close friend, or doing anything else where I want to be 100% in the moment. We want to be in-the-know with the rest of our world all the time, but sometimes that can be more hurtful than harmful. After doing this for a week, I experienced the humbling (and kind of funny) reality that I’m not important enough to receive any texts/emails/Facebook posts etc. that are so urgent that they can’t wait a couple hours. The same may be true for you too.
